Digby Scallop Days is Coming!

Planning our upcoming Nova Scotia Roadtrip was based on this year's Scallop Days festival in Digby. I have been to Nova Scotia many, many times, and yet the only time I ever visited Digby was for an overnight stay in order to get the ferry early the next morning.

Nova Scotia Traveller / Roguetrippers are huge fans of festivals. We have done day trips and road trips across Canada & the USA focused on a particular festival, and this year, one of our trips is dedicated to DIGBY, and the world's greatest Scallops.

Digby Scallop Days takes place this year from August 10-13th, 2017.
We will be there on Saturday August 12th.

Cruise Season is coming.

When you arrive at the Port of Sydney, one of the first things you will see is the Big Fiddle. The fiddle is a historic part of Cape Breton & Nova Scotia life. There are ceilidh's which are parties or gatherings where the participants enjoy local music, food, and drink. The fiddle is a huge part of the musical scene of Cape Breton, and there are many famous Canadian musicians who have made it big, playing the fiddle (Ashley MacIsaac & Natalie MacMaster to name a couple).

Peggy's Cove

Peggy's Cove

Peggy's Cove  is one of those destinations every Nova Scotia visitor has probably already heard of, and already made plans to visit, but for those who might not know of this little jewel, this post is for you.
Peggy's Cove is a small ocean side village about 45 km south west of Halifax. It has a beautifully rocky landscape hugging the Atlantic Ocean. There are several homes and businesses dotting the rocky coastline, including art galleries, ice cream parlors, gift shops, Bed and Breakfasts and more. The most iconic structure is the famous Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. In and around the lighthouse is a gift shop, restaurant, and post office.
The view is spectacular, and it is fun to walk along the rocky shore - but caution must be exercised as the rocks can be treacherous, and one false move and you may slip into the ocean.

While on a trip to Peggy's Cove, don't forget to honor those who perished in the Swissair Flight 111 plane disaster, and those who worked at rescue and recovery operations.

Roadside Attractions

As an avid road tripper, I really enjoy all the various roadside attractions you see along the way.

Every time we are in Nova Scotia, we always make the Cabot Trail trip - as it is one of the most scenic drives in all of North America, and Joe's Scarecrow field is always a must see.

There are dozens of very unique scarecrows dressed in a variety of costumes. Some are scary, some are entertaining, others are creepy, and some are cute - but they all are very creative and unique. This makes for a fun pit stop along the way. Stop and pose for pictures, poke your head in some of the scarecrows to become part of the crowd.
