In a just over a week, we will be heading out on a 10 day Road trip across the great Province of Nova Scotia.
As we go, we will be blogging our adventures. Sharing with our readers what it is we love about Nova Scotia and the Maritimes.

Nova Scotia Road Trip

It has been a while since I have posted anything to this blog, but all that changes starting now.
A lot has happened since I started Nova Scotia Traveler. My life has been thrown for a bit of a whirl and unfortunately I have neglected this blog.

What the changes in my life have taught me are that I need to regroup, refocus, and get back to what I love to do. That is Travel, share my adventures, make recommendations, and encourage others travelers to take the road less traveled and enjoy life as a tourist.

I will be heading on the road in just over a week for a 10 road trip around Nova Scotia. I will be hitting some highlights such as The Cabot Trail, Sydney, Louisbourg, Stewiacke, Halifax, Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay, and Lunenburg. If you feel there is somewhere that I must see in Nova Scotia, please let me know and I will try to get there.

Along the way, I will be reporting on the towns, villages, and cities I will be in. I will review restaurants and eateries, hotels and lodging, unique shops along the way, and all of the activities and attractions that we will be taking part in.

World Longest Covered Bridge turns 111

Although this is not a post about Nova Scotia, I would like to honor a location not far from Nova Scotia as it celebrates an anniversary. 


The Hartland Bridge in Hartland, New Brunswick is the longest covered bridge in the world. 
It crosses the St. John River in New Brunswick and it was officially opened July 4th, 1901 and today it is 111 years old. 


The Town of Hartland is situated along the picturesque and scenic St. John River Valley.  Hartland is located approximately 72 miles ( 120 km ) west of Fredericton, New Brunswick and approximately 100 miles ( 160 km ) east of Edmundston, New Brunswick, when travelling on the Trans Canada Highway (Route # 2). We are only a short drive from the Maine/New Brunswick border crossing at Woodstock.

Peggy's Cove

Peggy's Cove

Peggy's Cove  is one of those destinations every Nova Scotia visitor has probably already heard of, and already made plans to visit, but for those who might not know of this little jewel, this post is for you.
Peggy's Cove is a small ocean side village about 45 km south west of Halifax. It has a beautifully rocky landscape hugging the Atlantic Ocean. There are several homes and businesses dotting the rocky coastline, including art galleries, ice cream parlors, gift shops, Bed and Breakfasts and more. The most iconic structure is the famous Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. In and around the lighthouse is a gift shop, restaurant, and post office.
The view is spectacular, and it is fun to walk along the rocky shore - but caution must be exercised as the rocks can be treacherous, and one false move and you may slip into the ocean.

While on a trip to Peggy's Cove, don't forget to honor those who perished in the Swissair Flight 111 plane disaster, and those who worked at rescue and recovery operations.

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia

Take a drive along Nova Scotia's Lighthouse trail and you will come to the beautiful town of  Lunenburg. 


Lunenburg, Nova Scotia is a beautiful seaside shipbuilding and fishing town. Lunenburg is most famous as the town where the Bluenose and Bluenose II were built and sailed from.  In addition, it is a Unesco World Heritage site because "Old Town Lunenburg is the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America". Lunenburg has a lot to offer its visitors: great shopping, gift stores, art galleries, wonderful dining experiences including some of the finest fresh and local sea food around. There are many beautiful homes to see, full of colour, splendor, and history. In addition to fine chain hotels in the area, there are many other lodging experiences including cottage rentals, Bed and Breakfasts, and small local motels.


Lunenburg is a must see destination for any Nova Scotia traveler.
